sorry to hear that, look through the basic info you may find why your crabs are passing. once you get the waters, foods temps & humidity right they are pretty easy to care for if you keep things pretty consistant

Unfortunately that's some of the pitfalls of trying to do a newsletter, especially on a forum.
You guys get a Great Big A++ for trying to make a go of it.

This is the same problem we had last time.
We just can't get enough news, and nobody's around.
Hey, I'm not going to be a hypocrite and say:
"Staff! Get back in here!" Because,
let's face it,
I'm hardly around either.

There apparently has been a delay due to Summer Vacation because there are several members that are involved with putting it together.

Around here there isn't any TRUE Mexican food.  :-(  It's all Tex-Mex ... Which is okay ... But I do miss REAL Mexican food.
August 10, 2010, 03:31:48 AM
I've been to a mexican rest. and they even had rotton mexicn food!
August 09, 2010, 10:00:35 PM
Chuckle...They probably say the same thing about us when we prepare their food.
August 09, 2010, 07:39:49 PM
It's official: Germans make TERRIBLE Mexican food. I mean, when you get the Mexican sampler platter for 2, do you expect Italian meatballs or some sort of strange salmon wrap?
August 08, 2010, 10:48:09 PM
I had breakfast for dinner last night- home fries/eggs YUMM
August 08, 2010, 10:16:45 PM
I ended up doing bacon, scrambled eggs, crescent rolls, and milk.  :-)
August 08, 2010, 08:35:38 PM
hey...breakfast is good at dinner.
Bacon, pancakes, orange juice, hmmmmm.......
August 08, 2010, 07:49:56 PM
I'm thinking breakfast for dinner.  Really I'm just craving bacon but a huge plate of bacon for dinner seems kinda silly ...
August 08, 2010, 05:58:25 AM
I agree with you there, scobdoo! If I have kids, they aren't getting all the new video game systems...they'll have legos, blocks, and bikes, and I'll make them play outside! Maybe even unsupervised like I did when I was a kid...
August 06, 2010, 06:04:19 AM
I remember vacations lasting for ever when I was little and never being bored, kids now and days are bored to death in 5 days

Please, I need help!  Okay this is urgent so it isn't going to be the best thread but, oh well.  Okay, Sara was fine when I looked in on them this morning, but she was not upside down, just on the back of her shell by her water dish. Well, this was problably really dumb but I thought she had just tipped over and saw scared so I picked her up and set her in the middle of the crabitat.  When I do this she usually has moved back to her corner by the time I come back to chenk on her.  Well, I was out shopping all day till about an hour ago and I just went back int there and she is halfway out of her shell not moving.  I gently lifted her to see if she would come out and was just resting and she didn't so I put her back in the same sppot/position and came here.  COuld she be molting?  What do I do!?!  I have had ehr for 2 years and she has never molted/changed shells.  HELP!!!  I have pictures if you all need them.

Okay, just took a peek at her(with out moving her) and her eyes are a dull brown rather than the shiny black they usually are.  THey are also pointed down and squished together.  She looks alot like this, just not that far out of her shell.

Hi Hermie_the_Crab......hav e you by any chance picked her up and smelled her shell opening?  If there is terrible smell, then she has passed away.

Get back with us on what's happening...

She looks quite a bit like you're just looking at a freshly molted exoskeleton. Check out the pictures and descriptions of what a surface-molted crab looks like - I think it looks very much like your crab does. http://crabstreetjournal.com/xoops/modules/news/article.php?storyid=57

If you agree, then leave the crab alone. No touching. Avoid the tank as much as possible (feed and water the crab still, but that's it). If there are other crabs in there with her, that is the only time you can touch her, just to move her to an ISO tank.

thank you!  I have one other crab in there with her, Hermie.  I was going to move him to the iso so I wouldn't have to handle her, but should I move her instead?

Moving him's actually the best option. I wasn't sure how many other crabs you had, so if you'd have to move more than one or two crabs to ISO, I'd say move her. But if it's only one other crab, stick him in ISO and maybe give him some climbing stuff from the main tank (as she won't be using them for a little while). Keeping up two tanks can be a bit tiring, but she'll need to be protected while she's vulnerable.

Crab of the Month

This is Wasabi. He is a PP, (Purple Pincher) and sadly, he has passed on. He was the biggest out of all the crabs I have owned so far, and out of them all, he lived the longest. He lived about 6-7 months.

Facts

Land hermit crabs store a small amount of water in their shells just to keep their gills wet, thus allowing them to breath.
